Did anyone else pay for the Eumorpha pupa recently offered in mid March?
Anyone have any experience with Matt Nochisaki?

I have never bought anything from him but we have exchanged emails and he seems like a decent kid. He is a true enthusiast and not just flipping bugs for cash. He is on facebook if you are not getting an email reply.

Dear Kevin, I have just received an email from an InsectNet member complaining about this Matt Nochisaki. He hasn't sent some pupae ordered in September 2020 yet...
I am not sure if he is a scammer or a non-professional kid but in the doubt I have deleted his Classifieds account and listings today. If he was a decent kid, he should at least have solved his non-finalized deals (sending the pupae or refund people) before advertising other pupae in the Classifieds.
Keep us informed about him.

I will keep the community informed, as far as facebook- that's not much of a consolation, I don't like facebook, for one thing, and using facebook doesn't mean a positive thing to me. I do appreciate your input though, Eurytides, thank you.
I did get an email from him today, claiming he sent the pupa earlier this week, I'm being patient for now, although I did pay for priority shipping, at the least, he is unreliable and one of the poorest communicators I've run across in the last 10 years.
He sends an email, no tracking #, doesn't say which day he mailed the parcel, so, you can make your own assumptions about behavior like that. But, he has "missed" the last 2 times he said he'd ship. So, this will be try number 3.
The only person I know that has done business with him related a somewhat similar experience to what I'm seeing, poor communication, and questionable delivery of the material (ova), of which 2 out of 50 hatched, now, those things happen, it's happened to me, so it's difficult to pin down his method from that.
Sure, he seemed likeable and personable- at first. He seemed to know what he was talking about as far as the moths and some books we talked about.
This is exactly why people need to use "goods and services" for a contact new and unknown, I used that method for Matt, there are other persons I haven't bought from before that I'll go ahead and use friends and family, because I recognize them from other listings, or posts.

Oh I wasn’t saying using Facebook equates to good moral character. I just meant if you can’t reach him with email, try contacting him via FB. Some people don’t check their email for days.

I understand Eurytides, I used facebook for about 3 days before I got kicked out for not submitting to their relentless and ridiculous demands for a better picture of my face, and after I was tricked into giving them my phone #. I told zuckerburg what he could do with his website, and they didn't like it.
Matt did send me an email, claiming he sent the parcel "earlier in the week". along with the obligatory exclamation mark that it was sent, I find the use of punctuation in a situation like this a little fake sounding, like I should be excited. In this day and age, I also find it difficult to believe people can go a week without checking email.
I'm self-employed, for 30 years, if I ran my operation without communicating with my customers, I'd be out of a job quick. The same thing applies to people posting classified ads, you take my money- you owe me something for it, at least a believable explanation.
I don't like the situation, but it's not going to lie down and go away, I spent the money because I wanted what he offered, something he's got serious difficulty in delivering. He has no business posting an ad in my opinion.

I understand him to be a university undergrad. Perhaps he doesn’t have good business or communication skills... Kids these days haha.

Perhaps, in any event, I take no pleasure in being in the situation. The benefit of doubt has an expiration date, my email to him on Saturday 4-10-21, after the mail came and went, indicated I'd pursue a claim sometime the following week, most likely the end of this coming week. Perhaps PayPal can get his attention. Never too soon to learn a good business model, and "all's well that ends well" isn't one of them.

I had a very poor trading experience with Matt a few years ago. He would only respond to emails after I resent them several times. It dragged out over a year. Can't tell if he is really trying to scam people or just terrible at communicating and remembering. I though I had a thread on him a while back but don't see it anymore.

I have not Sold, Purchased, Traded or Advertised on Insectnet for several years. There are/were several "Wannabe" slick characters who attempted to have me ship first and pay latter. That only happened once. And, I also learned he has numerous aliases.
I only post my field activities. Nothing more. I have even given several individuals on insectnet exact locations to find/collect cocoons, or where a species of butterfly or moth can be found.
I am currently driving North through Michigan. I am on my way to Thompson Harbor area of the lower peninsula. I visited the area late last week and the weather did not cooperate. This is a great location for Pyrgus centaureae wyandot.

Whatever Mr. Nochisaki's problem is, I think it's going to be solved. He has some issues, I have started my PayPal claim. I only wish this, as far as the community is concerned- when you see someone post an ad who has been a problem for you before, please warn the rest of us. Honest and reliable people should at least be aware of their own shortcomings and not be offended by some brass tacks. The whole thing is just bizarre, I told Matt I was going to use "goods and services" and he had no issue with it, but at the same time, he's behaving like a scammer, maybe he just needed some cash to borrow, I have no idea, and don't really care. I'm going to get my money back one way or another.

If he’s a student, and working, he’s probably stretched for time. That’s why I don’t sell any of the material I can dispense with- no time to appropriately handle selling and shipping.
You should have his phone number right?

You should have his phone number right? Chuck Color me weird, but I have a reticence to use the phone with internet contacts, and no, I don't have his phone # Time, the whole key to being successful at mail order is to be prepared. Even the day my father passed away, I was able to take care of my obligations to someone who trusted me, as a seller, my problems are not the buyer's, unless I'm incapacitated somehow. Even now, I have some Actias sp. hatching, and am ready to send out ova if it should become possible, I've got the boxes, tape, labels, packing material, and a pen. That's all it takes, being prepared. I sure wouldn't want to be stuck in some survival situation with someone that couldn't even gather some wood. You can't wake up some morning and just throw out offers with no plan to carry through, or, maybe you can after all. For me, if you can't follow through, just please, don't tempt me with things that you have no idea how to deliver.

I read Michael Wilson's tips for avoiding scams. All good points.
Mr. Nochisaski fooled me good, but there were the red flags, and here they are- no prices in the ad, the time he answered my email(his local time), not mine, now, maybe he stays up until 4 am, but it was unusual. He also was vey chatty until I sent the money. I didn't ask for pictures, for a couple reasons, he seemed sincere and knowledgeable being the main one.
Luckily, I used PayPal goods and services, and expect a resolution in a few weeks, after Mr. Nochisaki ignores the email PayPal has sent him regarding my claim.
I suppose I ignored my own rules, which one of, the seller not posting prices is a red flag, and I have paid the price in annoyance and stress because of it.

Case closed. Paypal is refunding my money. A classic case of a stone cold loser who should not be offering anything to anyone. I am not interested in his issues, I wouldn't care if he's got 4 jobs and going to school. My mistake was ignoring the red flag which was his not posting prices in the listing. maybe there's a reason for people to do that, but I can't think of any reasonable ones. Only if you're in jail, or the ICU, is an acceptable excuse for an honest person to end up in the position to not be able to fulfill the obligations of a seller.
