Hi Mokky, Sorry to pester but here is a request from Australia. When I was a kid living in Tapini PNG in the early 70`s a Butterfly insect collector from Japan came through our town Hirouaki Kawaguchi , not quite sure on the first name spelling . In the afternoons he went out on the lawn and practised martial arts on the front lawn of my fathers hotel , the neighbours dog got upset and ran around this guy , with all the commotion the native village children gathered around screaming and falling over laughing , they thought this guy was trying to fight the dog .It really was very funny once you saw the crowd that was drawn in. I wonder is this guy still around and collecting ? Greetings from Australia, Jack

Then probably more of a reason for people to go out and collect as wouldn`t you want to know if there are invasive critters getting around ?

A lot of very interesting different views on this subject . Some people are just happy to even have a specimen no matter what especially for research , have to start somewhere after that in time things may get better. Saddest thing I have heard (((((( is some collectors throw away that old specimen when they get a few others .

Hi Stephane, Nice blog , so many species I`m not familiar with. I see a Trichaulax macleayi collected by me Regarding your Trichaulax nortoni specimen , this is a rainforest species and your data Mt Surprise is definitely incorrect .Where did you get this specimen from an old collection ? Cheers, Jack

Exotic imports , you judge our state Qld quite harshly. Have you ever tried to apply for a permit to export something from Australia ? You can`t just drop in and expect to get an export permit , you have to organise things in advance.Sure things might take a while , but same goes for a lot of countries . I think gangs ect you mention are a lot fiercer in a lot of other countries. Qld and Australia generally is a very friendly place. Anyway Australia is one of the best countries to live in and Qld would have to be one of the best states in Australia to live in . I grew up in PNG and you can`t compare the two countries at all. If you ever visit our district and want to employ me as your guide I can organise such a trip and you can go home with the specimens you collected yourself. But you can`t just go to expect to collect just anywhere like a lot of countries these days , there are some restrictions. Qld the sunshine state rules

Sorry I don`t have butterflies on my site . The few I get are snapped up pretty quick by some collects and dealers. I try my best to supply insects but we are only a team of two my wife and I collecting and breeding, and its hard to keep up with demand for butterflies collecting the smaller more uncommon species takes up a bit of time.My friend said to me the other day you should have had more children .

A couple of people have written to me and said you don`t offer what I`m interested in .Lycaenidae example . If its a described species you are after and occurs in my collection areas please ask as I may be able to collect it for you. Beetles , Butterflies ,Moths, Phasmids , Orthoptera ,we live in the rainforest and harvest and breed and rear insects onsite . Jack

I`m an Australian insect collector and dealer , for some reason I sell and get more enquiries from insect dealers overseas than regular customers . Where am I going wrong ? I have all legal export permits , provide only the finest specimens and offer my customers extra free insects with each order. My website is www.ozinsects.com and www.insectfarm.net selling live and dried specimens.

I`m dealing with ageing parents from both sides of the family and it takes up so much time , can you imagine how Geralds family is dealing with this. I guess if they decide to continue the business they will catch up when time allows. Just sometimes people need to be patient and compassionate.

I`m sorry to hear about Geralds health. I dealt with him about 20 years now , he bought and paid for my insects in advance every time . We had a great businesses working relationship. I hope his family can keep up with the business and his great reputation that I knew. He paid in advance for the first parcel I ever sent him. Never a bad word between us only trust.

Looks like a killer for the insect trade. I can`t imagine buying $25.00 specimens and vet inspections of over $145.00 extra . As it is I have to work pretty hard to get the specimens I export and licence fee to pay already to export, more paperwork with customs clearance again to export . Norton tells me the onus is on me now to supply a vet export certificate.I don`t think so , my specimens are quality with no pests, unlike stuff I have received in the past for my personal collection from 3rd world countries which need fumigation already at my cost to import. Forget it , I just give up exporting I think as the whole system becomes unviable. Already customers want as much discount as possible . I better start looking for a regular job I think. So much for having a unique business. Good luck to everyone.
