I just started collecting Lycaenidae about 3 years ago, and now they are among my favourites. These are North America, and thus far my only drawer. Can we see some more please.

Wow, you’ve caught probably twice the NA species I have in a lifetime!

Here are some. Admittedly…..not that much for 55+ years of collecting. I like them, but never focused on the group.

Where did you find your P.icarus ? This species was recently introduced from Europe. I know two localities so far around Toronto that this species has established their colonies.

Icarus I got in Langstaff Park in Vaughan in July. They are well established there, lots of birdsfoot trefoil there and I saw at least 100, mostly males but also a couple dozen females. In August I saw a few just a couple of hundred yards north of our home here in Pickering, in the hydro field. I also saw a couple down by the waterfront park in Ajax. Seems they are expanding their range further and further west. They are probably in the west of the GTA as well, or if not, will be soon.

Yes, Langstaff Park I found them there too close to two ponds, a bit south of Langstaff. Another spot is in Mississauga ( Dundas/Dixie area).

Hey Billg, Did you happen to acquire many of those Lycaenidae you have from that friend who bequeathed his collection to you (which you mentioned) in the saturniid thread ?
I have virtually had no luck ever finding much in the way of Lycaenidae here in Illinois. In fact, I have only run across five species here in all my life. I think the only way I'd ever come across any more is if I got them from somebody else's collection !
