The Charaxes seems to be a male of C.eupale Drury,1782 .

The Lycaenid next to Charaxes is an Uranothauma species, possibly U.falkensteini Dewitz,1879 .

Hi, I think this species does not belong to Charaxes anymore, our friend africaone will enlighten us about them, they´re currently named as Viridixes... Regards, Alejandro A.

Stephane, yeap they are. Alejandro,I know it. For the species : eupale, dilutus, minor, subornatus, montis, schultzei, and schiltzei(this described by africaone,as well the ssp.karinae of minor from Angola) ,the genus has been changed from Charaxes to Viridixes. But even on the Eric Vingerhoedt's site, although these are listed now as 'Viridixes',still in the boxes of the collections the labels write 'Charaxes'. It's not wrong to call them Charaxes. www.drlegrain.be/eviintro/systematic/collection/charaxes.htmlBy the way, the name 'Viridixes' shows the GREEN color of the members of the eupale group (everything containing 'virid' shows green).

Changing titles in a webpage link takes 10sec. Changing labels in those drawers take a bit longer + He'd had to take completely new pics of the drawers... It doesn't mean its correct to call the charaxes...

Look at the important thing : They have the characteristics of a Charaxes (morphology, biology, behaviour). I can accept Viridixes only as a subgenus.

Georgios, tell us your scientific arguments ! that included what you are doing with Polyura, Palla and Euxanthe of course ! I suppose (of course) that you know very well the litterature concerning the question and all the recent results.

I call them Papilio eupale. I can accept Charaxes only as a subgenus... Thanos, they are Charaxinae, they have a lot in common with Charaxes... but it does not mean they are Charaxes. If major specialists agree on the splitting with Viridixes, then why don't you accept it, knowing you are not a specialist ? africaone < can you tell us where we can read about this Viridixes genus, personally I like learning !

africaone,do you prefer to call me with my father's name ? No problem. But my name is Thanos . Well,well..It has been shown recently (K. Aduse-Poku et al. / Molecular Phylogenetics and Evolution 53 (2009) 463–478) that the genus Charaxes is a paraphyletic group to Euxanthe and Polyura, and that the ancestors of Charaxes diverged from Palla in the mid Eocene. Based on molecular evidence,it is proposed this classification within the GENUS CHARAXES (species-groups as defined by Henning, 1989): New subgenus Species-group: Nichetes Subgenus Polyura Billberg, 1820 Species-group: Pyrrhus Species-group: Pleione Species-group: Zoolina Subgenus Eriboea Hübner 1819 Species-group: Eupale Species-group: Solon Species-group: Jahlusa Species-group: Hildebrandti Species-group: Etesipe Species-group: Anticlea Species-group: Etheocles Subgenus Euxanthe Hübner, 1819 Species-group: Euxanthe Species-group: Lycurgus Subgenus Charaxes Ochsenheimer, 1816 Species-group: Zingha Species-group: Hadrianus Species-group: Cynthia Species-group: Varanes Species-group: Jasius Species-group: Lucretius Species-group: Candiope Species-group: Bernardus Species-group: Tiridates Species-group: Nobilis Species-group: Acraeoides Now, Thierry,if you prefer to call the Eriboea as Viridixes (Bouyer, Th. ; E. Zakharov ; R. Rougerie & E. Vingerhoedt 2008: Les Charaxes du groupe eupale: description d'un nouveau genre, révision et approche génétique (Lepidoptera: Nymphalidae: Charaxinae). Entomologia Africana Hors Série No. 3: 1-32.) ,I have no problem with it, but they are both SUBGENUSES within the genus Charaxes. Excuse me now, but, although an interesting discussion,I've put some nice specimens for relaxing and it's time for spreading job . Thanos (not Georgios )

father's name its is the name I understood, sorry Athanasios (?) (origin of Thanos I suppose) ! the paper you cited is incomplete and the authors didn't want to make systematic acts. The problem being as many other group, not go against a kind of tradition" accepting that Prepona and Agrias being two different genera (same with Fountainea, Anaea and Polygrapha)and not split in the same taxoxomic level Old world Charaxinae is for me a nonsense and a contradiction.
