In less than one month, there have been 981 bids and 339 winning bids via my website... so IT IS useful to many people. If Insectnet was criticized like this few weeks after its creation, I am sure Clark would have stopped everything... Yes I agree with you my Coleoptera pages still need a lot of work , agree with you. Thanks for the tips. I find this whole topic very demotivating... nosorog if you really want to be "constructive", pm me your advice on how to improve the website. It will be useful to all users of www.collector-secret.com

Wollastoni, I don't know how you count the bids via your website. Does someone have to create an account on your website in order to place a bid via your website? Then how about the privacy? You will know who bids on what. And you are an interested party in this. Just guessing here.
I don't know anything about web design hence I can't give you any specific technical tips, but you already got one - add the search for misspelled names. Maybe add other auction sites you know (e.g. Insectnet auctions, some country-specific ebay auctions that normally do not show up on ebay.com searches; potentially some European or Asian auctions if such exist...). I'm sorry you feel I've offended you. That was not my intention. Sincerely, Alex

Ebay just gives me "click through" stats to know which pages are efficient and which are not. No idea who bids on what, don't worry.

I personally don't use it, or need it... I have been 'ebaying' for more than 10 years and have my own search systems screwed down tight... This works for me, but I am not going to rubbish Oliviers site... It might be useful for many people... Barry

Greetings,
I've used the Collectors Secret site to search, but really haven't found it to be any more efficient than searching on my own. So I'm neutral as far as allowing him to post - it doesn't seem to me that it's intrusive overall, in my opinion.
I'm more annoyed by all the obvious scammers' posts with ridiculous offers - they are a waste of space and time. In general, it seems there aren't more than a dozen new posts on any given day - I don't find it too difficult to scan them over to see if anything interesting to me is being offered...
Just my two cents, Bandrow

Thank you Baz (good to see you here) and bandrow for your nice words. Though I think this discussion is totally exagerated, here is what I have decided from now on : - I will write CS on my ads as suggested by Adam - I will delete finished ads every 3 days in order to not increase the numbers of ads. Thanks a lot to the members who wrote me to give me some tips or to ask me to add some specific genera they want to check via www.collector-secret.com .

I think Ebay and Insectnet users are not always same, so I think OliverĀ“s and also Insectcollection or so service is useful. I am not Ebay seller but Ebay buyer so more bidders is not good for me ;D, but it surely helped seller. Do not think this work can be called parasiting.
But problem is now 90% of adds on Insectnet is about Ebay. Some adds are from Oliver, some from Insectcollection, some from other sellers promoting their auctions. Nothing wrong. But I really like to see possibility to sorted Ebay auction on first sight. Best way for me is just split Lepidoptera cathegory to Deadstock, Livestock and new cathegory "Ebay". If it is too dificult, then also "CS" mark is helpful, but it sorted only Oliver adds.
For me important are non-Ebay adds and if I do not check classifieds for few days, then clicking through all Ebay-adds is really painful task.

Thanks Jan for your words. My website and ads can also help buyers know that one interesting item is for sale. Especially buyers like you who don't check ebay every minutes. That's why it is very used by collectors.
I think an additional "ebay category" would be too complicated. I personaly look for some rare Delias species and I would buy them both on ebay or out of ebay. I don't want to check 2 different categories on InsectNet to know if they are offered.
I have now decided to delete my ads that are more than 3 days old.

Dear colleagues, I may have fallen behind a little bit, so could you help me catch up: are FREAKS and ABERRANTS synonyms?? Since when??

Freaks should not be listed as "aberrant", I agree with you. Many sellers sell them as aberrant in order to earn more money... But I think most collectors don't fall in this marketing trap.

The Insect Classifieds welcomes eBay posts. If you are selling on eBay this is a great way to attract additional bidders. I see nothing wrong with it, even if it is a consolidation script. Just remember that Classifieds users are limited to 10 posts per day with a max of 50 current ads. Thank you.

One more comment. I think Collector's Secret might use a little care when advertising certain stuff, like the recent "Parnassius mercurius buddha female", offered by goliath*2010. The name of the taxon is actinoboloides, that's number one. Secondly, the discolored ocelli of this specimen have been digitally tinted with red, just like those of many other "rare, super rare, extremely rare, or white/black/bright/dark/nice/whatever form" specimens offered by the mentioned seller. And thirdly, we surely have here a 100% positive feedback. Pretty sad and poor, IMHO.

Personally, I think it is a great web site and find it most useful. I believe the creator of the web site did a wonderful service for those of us who use Ebay a lot but have little time to check each Ebay store one at a time.
I find it absurd that some are so bothered to see a few ads on InsectNet Classifieds.
