Morpho didius gynandromorphs aren't that rare. I suspect them to be the result of a Wolbachia infection. Some breeder out there in South America probably got this Wolbachia strain in his breeding facility and therefore yields a higher count in gynandromorphs. This is the reason why you can find at least a dozen of specimens each year on ebay. For those that do not know what Wolbachia are, they are bacteria messing up with the reproductive organs of insects, they can have various effects ranging from pronounced gynandromorphism (at least proven in Pieris) or just producing offsprings of a single sex, etc..
The Ornithoptera victoriae is a nice one, I sorted a dozen of these last year in the museum and found them so nice that I nearly wanted to own one myself although I have no interest in Ornithoptera at all.
