I have a pair of orellana, stunning species, from what I remember about the ascanius I will have to respread them but they are very cheap. I must say John the quality of the specimens you have in your collection is astounding, makes me green. The male orellana has a beautiful purple sheen to the forewings not shown in this poor picture that I took. Attachments:

Hi Quintin, I have had my 3 hahneli pairs since around 1985, from memory they were £8 per pair but that was almost 30 years ago.

Nice specimens, Dunc! I think hahneli now go for 300 a pair. I know here in Canada, we had real silver dollars circulating in 1967. If you take in inflation, today it would take 25 of our 2013 $1 loonies to have the purchasing power of one 1967 $1!!!!! That is what happens when govts print worthless paper currencies too cover their massive out of control spiralling debt crisises. When Europe was on the gold standard, their was NO INFLATION. A gold dukat struck in lets say my home town of Cologne circa 1298AD had the same gold content as a 1914 Austria-Hungary Dukat Franz Josef I. John

Because I like Parides in general and orellana in particular, during the last butterflies auctions in Drouot, I bought these two boxes showing these butterflies flying very rarely here in Paris, including three orellana males. I'm quite happy to have these Parides home. It goes without saying that I will be even much more happy the day when, on the banks of the Amazon, I'll see orellana fly and may be capture one or two .... The three orellana from Iquitos area.
