I have read that Linnaeus is a lectotype, regarded as a representative of the species?

I volunteered to be the type specimen but they said they already had a neanderthal.

We have people in this world who will sit up all night with a sheet looking for a rare moth or beetle that they eventually find. But they do this based on some knowledge/information about the specie. Once collected, they have have the actual specimen. Hard Evidence.
When I was in High School there was this gorgeous blonde girl. She was a knock out. The lies that where told about making out with her were incredible. Then she turned up pregnant. Will the father please step forward?
See my point. Talk is cheap. Hard Evidence works every time.
No stacks of sticks, no hair found on a wall, no foot prints in the mud. Just a Body, dead or alive. Hard Evidence. Just a Body.
I am going to go have breakfast. Maybe I will see the tattooed Sasquach at the Waffle House. Now that's hard evidence.

There are a few hundred thousand illegal Aliens walking around Britain, perhaps they are in a parallel universe that is why they keep so well hidden. Talking of monsters, we had a few of those pop out here as well. Back to real life, we do not hear much about the Yeti of the of the Himalayas anymore, my bet is they have vanished and can be added to yet another extinction. My bet is the reason the Yeti became extinct, is there is no more pot smoking hippy Mountaineers climbing Everest anymore. I do not know what you guys smoke in the Canadian backwoods but it must be one hell of a weed to create such vivid hallucinations. A eight foot hairy two legged Ape.

I sometimes ponder on what people say they have seen. Are they trying to get attention, or could it be that they want to believe something so badly that their minds and eyes play tricks on them? As I said before, I think anyone has a right to their opinion and belief, and should therefore not be ridiculed or condemned for it. I am sure that most so called sightings are either hoaxes, or unclear encounters of something that seems to be what they want it to be. Yet then there are some very credible accounts of individuals who claim what they saw was real, and are very adamant about it. Was I there? Did I see what they claim to have seen? No. So I cannot logically dispute them or call them liars. So it is a matter of belief, and what we choose to be true, false or un-explainable.

I read the article in the Lexington, Kentucky, The Hearld Leader. The specimen/likeness of Big Foot figured in the article is at a museum located in Middleboro, KY.
After church today, my wife and I decided to go pay Big Foot a visit. I put my wife and my 55 Caliber 1872 Sharps Buffalo rifle in the car and Off to Middleboro we went. By the time we stopped for a late lunch in Pineville at a Burger King (No Waffle House in this neck of the Woods).
Several years ago there was a steak house in Flat Gap. The Hilly Billy Steak House, the sign on the door, No Shirt, No Shoes, No Problem. It was closed and boarded up.
When we arrived in Middlesboro at 4PM, the museum was closed. However, we met a man (Character) out side the Museum who claims to have Sen several Big Foots. If I would accompany to Beer Cave at the truck stop, he would tell us all about Big Foot.
I looked at my wife, she leaned over and whispered, 5 will get you 10 he is married to a Waffle House waitress.
We got home around 8MP.
Next Sunday we will attend the early service and get to Middleboro before 1PM.
I can't wait!!

Something I have noticed about the Bigfoot Research attempts is that in a given area there suddenly seem to be several sightings. Then one of these research teams comes in and sets up camera traps, game trail cameras, and they search for other evidence as they go hiking around the woods hoping to get a glimpse. So far I have not seen any conclusive proof of these creatures from these attempts. Another thing that strikes me as odd is that in the places where these creatures are reported, there are lots of deer and elk hunters. As far as I know, no-one has shot one yet and brought it to the scientific community to finally prove they exist. There may be explanations for all of this, but if they do exist, sooner or later someone should be able to get definitive proof. Can all of the people that say they have seen it be lying? I suppose it is possible, but I find it rather unlikely. I still have to wonder though when they say they had a crystal clear look at it from very close range, why they didn't get a clear photo or video. It seems that whenever they present this kind of evidence the photos are always out of focus, or what we are looking at is hard to identify.

When Europeans came to the Americas the native Americans seemed to have known about these things. They called them sasquach. Unless there is something in the human mind that causes ALL of us to imagine the same thing when confronted with something unknown then at least some of these people are seeing something real. Sailors swore up and down that they saw a mermaid. It turns out they saw manatees. Now how they could confuse a sea cow with a gorgeous half woman/fish is beyond me but I've never spent months at sea either. Perhaps the legend of Bigfoot will someday go the same way. The discovery of a new species.

Belize has its own version of Bigfoot – tata duende. Thought to date back to Maya experience in the forest – which spans a couple thousand years.
Two things worth noting from personal experience. We were once on a week-long excursion into the bush in Toledo District. We hired four Maya guides (and two of their horses) to get us into the bush – and to keep us alive for the week. One night, killing time around the fire, I asked about tata duende. Man – that killed the evening. Just total silence, and then our four guides slipped off into the darkness. There is no doubt that this is a subject that should not be raised miles from the nearest village, in the heart of the Mayan forest.
Second, I was in Cockscomb basin, by myself walking down the access road about 5 km from Maya Center – the nearest village. I could hear something in the bush behind me and to my right. I looked over, and there was definitely something there trailing me. When I looked, it spooked and I could see a line of shrubs shake as it moved quickly into the forest.
I’m telling you – if that isn’t definitive proof, then I don’t know what it would take to convince a doubter.
John
ps. I'll be back in the bush next week seeking further evidence of tata duende. If we almost get a photograph, find a clump of mysterious looking hair, smell something funky in the forest, or any other definitive evidence, I'll be sure to pass it along.

It is interesting how so many cultures around the world all have legends about large bipedal humanoid type creatures. Is this a manifestation of a "collective" fear instilled in us or a real animal?

Possibly true. Although I'll tell you - over the years, our Maya guides have been seemingly fearless about the forest. Snakes are about the only thing that gets them excited - otherwise day or night, I have never seen them get rattled. These guys have been consistently "one with the bush". Although - not everyone is as comfortable as they are. For example - we were staying in one of their huts once, when we commented about the huge scorpions running around at night. They told us to stay away from those - "because they make you cry". That was that - nothing more said. I assumed they spoke from experience. Could it be that every culture needs a "bogyman" to keep their kids in line? j

Snakes get me excited too. But probably not for the same reason. I don't keep venomous species though. Humans have very vivid imaginations which is lucky for us or we wouldn't have art, music or movies. These things we think up make our short little existence here more interesting. Far as a "boogy man" goes wouldn't it make more sense for us to "collectively" dream up a reptilian humanoid since the fear of reptiles seem to be a common factor in the human race.

Almost forgot. I can definitely understand how a scorpion sting could "make you cry" as they put it. If I got stung by a deathstalker scorpion I would definitely cry and probably do some other things I won't mention too.....

I remember watching a Big Foot episode on TV several year ago and three or four guys were in a cabin and supposedly Big Foot was pounding on the door. One guy was filming, another was looking out a Windows and the third was trying to hold the door from being beat in. There were numerous guns/rifles present, but not one of them picked up a gun and shot the fuzzy bugger.
And, nobody managed a photograph.
They claimed it was between 7 1/2 to 8 feet tall and weighed 400 to 450 lbs. If that size is factual, Big Foot could have easily busted, pushed or demolished the door.
After I thought about, it was all staged.
However, I would never be ask to hunt down old Big Foot, if I was in that cabin the night this supposedly happened, I would have shot the big ape and ended the debate, AND there source of income, if you get the drift of my conversation. A dead big foot brings an end to the show and the money. And, would fill the Woods with hunters. The real stupidty begins when we start hunting Big Foot down and then becomes an endangered species. Now we get the US Goverment envoled. Billions get spent to protect Big Foot.
I think I have said too much!
